In 2005, the Goody Goody Restaurant, a downtown Tampa favorite since 1925, closed its doors, a victim of the hectic real estate boom that was then taking place. Famous for its melt-in-your-mouth Hamburgers with the Secret Sauce and scrumptious Butterscotch Pie, Goody Goody was a favorite of young couples out on a date and Tampa business people and even politicians who recognized "The Goody" as the place to see and be seen. During its 80 years as a drive-in and dine-in restaurant, Goody Goody witnessed the inauguration of 14 U.S. Presidents, and saw Tampa's young men and women leave for World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other conflicts. The Goody in Tampa was historically related to (but not a part of) Goody Goody restaurants in Dayton, Ohio and Santa Monica, California, as well as the Delores Restaurants in Oklahoma City and Los Angeles. This is a salute "with love" to Tampa's Goody Goody and its 80 years of wonderful food and great times.
